Abstract [en]

Nyhamnen is a district in central Malmö that is facing major changes in the coming years, the transformation is an important part of expanding and further developing Malmö’s city center. The old industrial and port area is planned to become a new sustainable district with a mix of housing and businesses, trade and services.

In the area there is a hundred-year-old warehouse building that will be preserved, Magasin M1, which is in urgent need of renovation and transformation. By working with the existing building, I want to create a public building, an attractive destination that bring people to the site.

To transform a building that no longer is suitable for its original function into something new. Through intervention give the warehouse a new function that sets a new character in the area. The goal of this project has been how to maintain the building’s architectural and artistic design unchanged and at the same time adapt new functions to the building. The possibility to read and understand the old structure and the activities that were conducted there should still be clear.
