This study investigates the influence of temperature and numerical model parameterson the natural frequencies of a steel pedestrian bridge, using experimentalmeasurements and numerical modelling. The results showed that the natural frequencieschanged by 16%, 3%, and 3% for the first three modes when comparingmeasurements conducted at outdoor temperatures of -8◦C and +8◦C. The structuraldamping was lower for -8◦C. Finally, it was concluded that longitudinal springs mustbe introduced at the bearings in the numerical model in order to achieve agreementbetween the numerical model and the experimentally identified natural frequenciesunder both temperature conditions. Furthermore, the damping ratios and modeshapes were found to depend on the excitation amplitude. Together, these observationssuggest that the observed changes in dynamic properties are caused by frictionin the bridge bearings.
